13-20 weeks

From 14 weeks on, you have entered the second trimester of pregnancy. For most women, nausea and fatigue diminish, and you gain more energy to engage in activities. Most women feel their baby move for the first time between 16 and 20 weeks of pregnancy. If this is your first pregnancy, you may not feel the movements until after the 20th week.

Appointments with the midwife

During this period, you will have monthly check-ups with the midwife. We assess the growth of your belly, listen to the baby’s heartbeat, and measure your blood pressure. Additionally, we provide information relevant to your pregnancy term, and answer your questions. If you want to come in for an extra visit during this period to listen to the baby’s heartbeat or if you need someone to talk to, that is possible. Indicate this during your midwifery appointment, send an email to info@verloskundigeinamsterdam.nl, or call the assistant during the telephone consultation hours.

13 week ultrasound

Between 12+3 and 14+3 weeks, you can opt for the 13 week ultrasound. This is a screening ultrasound where the baby is thoroughly examined for abnormalities from head to toe. The 13 week ultrasound will take place at EchoXpert.

Gender reveal ultrasound

If you are curious about the gender of your baby, you can find out with an ultrasound from 14 weeks onwards. This ultrasound is not covered by insurance as it is not medically necessary. The costs of this ultrasound with us are €55.

20 week ultrasound

Between 19 and 21 weeks, you can opt for the 20 week ultrasound. This is another screening ultrasound where the baby is thoroughly examined from head to toe. The 20-week ultrasound will also take place at EchoXpert.

Exercise during pregnancy

It is healthy to continue (or start) exercising during pregnancy. You may notice that you get out of breath or tired more quickly, so always listen to your body and take it easy if needed. Some sports, like kickboxing or horseback riding, are better to avoid during pregnancy due to potential risks. If you are unsure whether you can continue your favorite sport, feel free to ask us. If you would like to exercise under the guidance of an expert, we can enroll you, if desired, for free classes with “Blijf in Beweging” (Stay in Motion). During these classes, you can exercise for an hour each week under the guidance of an exercise therapist. Pregnant women who exercise will go into labor fit and generally recover faster postpartum.
