Implanon insertion

At VIA we can also help you with implanon insertion. The implanon, also known as the contraceptive implant, is inserted right underneath the skin of your upper arm. The implanon releases a small dosage of hormones daily, which prevents your ovulation from happening. In this way, the impanon is over 99% effective in preventing pregnancies. Before scheduling the insertion, we will always call you for an informative talk about this form of contraception.

Practical information

  • The implanon works for 3 years.
  • The insertion will be covered by your health insurance, but the implanon usually is not. Please inform with your insurar. The costs of the implanon will be €150. 
  • We order the implanon from the online portal ‘anticonceptieportaal’. After the payment is complete, they will send the implanon to our practice so it will be ready for you with the appointment.
  • The implanon insertion can be done at any moment during your menstrual cycle. We do advise to take further precautions (like condoms) for the first 7 days after insertion.
  • The first month after the insertion you might experience more hormonal side effects because the daily dosage is a bit higher during the first month. This will gradually decline within 3 months. After the first 3 months side effects will be less or completely gone. If you’re experiencing severe side effects after 3 months, you can get the implanon removed.
  • The bleeding pattern will be different for everyone. This can vary between no bleeding at all to monthly bleeding. Some women experience more frequent bleedings. After 3 months you can start so see your pattern. It is not possible to predict the pattern before insertion.

Also for the removal of the implanon you can book an appointment with is. Would you like to have a new implanon or an IUD/coil right away? Then we can combine these in one appointment. We will discuss the information and any questions you have over the phone first.
