Pregnancy ultrasounds
We offer various types of ultrasounds, including medical ultrasounds, gender ultrasounds, and 2D entertainment ultrasounds. Even if you are not under our care, you are welcome to schedule an ultrasound with us. To make an appointment, contact our assistant between 10:00 and 13:00 at 020-8203474, option 2, or email us at info@verloskundigeinamsterdam.nl.
Medical ultrasounds are scheduled during your midwife check-ups. For the 13- and 20-week scans, we refer you to Echoxpert. If you wish to have an additional look at your baby beyond the regular scans, let us know during your check-up so we can schedule a gender and/or 2D entertainment ultrasound upon request. Please note that gender and 2D fun ultrasounds are subject to charges, as they are not medically necessary.
Early ultrasound
Around 7-8 weeks
This vaginal ultrasound is performed from 7-8 weeks on indication. It checks if the baby is in the uterus and if there is a beating heart. Additionally, it determines whether you are expecting one baby or multiples.
Term ultrasound
Around 10-12 weeks
Around 10-12 weeks, we conduct the dating ultrasound. The baby’s measurements from head to tailbone determine the estimated due date. After 10 weeks, this ultrasound can be performed externally, via your belly. The image quality is optimal when you have a full bladder.
13 week ultrasound
Between 12+3 en 14+3 weeks
This is a screening ultrasound, examining the baby from head to toe. For more information on this ultrasound we refer you to our page on prenatal tests. The 13-week scan takes place at EchoXpert.
Gender reveal ultrasound
From 14 weeks
Upon request, we schedule the gender ultrasound from 14 weeks. We can confidently determine the baby’s gender during this scan. If, due to unforeseen circumstances, the gender is not clearly visible, we offer a second ultrasound free of charge. The cost for a gender ultrasound is €55.00.
20 week ultrasound
Between 19 and 21 weeks
This is a screening ultrasound, comprehensively examining the baby. Refer to our page on prenatal tests for more information. The 20-week scan takes place at EchoXpert.
2D entertainment ultrasound
This ultrasound allows you to take an extra look at your baby. While it is possible at any stage of pregnancy, it is best done before 28 weeks. Factors affecting image quality include BMI and baby’s position. If we can not get good photos due to the baby’s position, we offer a second fun ultrasound free of charge. The cost for a 2D entertainment ultrasound is €55.00.
Growth ultrasound
With indication between 28-36 weeks
During regular check-ups, the midwife assesses the baby’s growth and the amount of amniotic fluid using hands-on techniques. If there are concerns about the baby’s growth, the midwife schedules a growth ultrasound. Some women have an indication for a growth ultrasound based on their medical history.
Positioning ultrasound
Between 35-36 weeks
Every client is offered a positioning ultrasound to determine if the baby’s head is down (head-first) or up (breech). The growth and amount of amniotic fluid are measured on indication.
